DVGW, KIWA, WRAS, RISE and INiG approvals: what they mean

Fittings and catalogues carry the abbreviations of several institutions from different countries. We explain what each of them means and which documents customers in Poland ask for.

What each abbreviation means

AbbreviationInstitution and countryWhat it covers
DVGWDeutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches, Germanycertification of products for gas and water installations
KIWAKiwa, Netherlandscertification of products for water installations, including drinking water
WRASWater Regulations Advisory Scheme, United Kingdomcompliance with UK water fittings regulations (Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999)
RISEResearch Institutes of Sweden, Swedentesting and certification of products, including plumbing products
INiGOil and Gas Institute – National Research Institute, Polandtesting and certification of products for the gas industry
PZHNational Institute of Public Health PZH – National Research Institute, Polandhygiene certificate: the product may come into contact with water intended for human consumption

Alongside approvals, catalogues also cite a standard. EN 1254-7 is the European standard for fittings with press ends for metallic pipes, while EN 1254 as a whole covers fittings made of copper and copper alloys.

An approval may cover only some of the diameters or applications of a given line. The scope and validity are always confirmed by the certificate itself.

Which documents are needed in Poland

Foreign approvals are a strong quality argument: the product has been tested in a country with high requirements. On Polish building sites, however, customers most often ask about two documents:

  • PZH hygiene certificate for drinking water installations.
  • The declaration of performance (DoP), which the manufacturer issues for a construction product.

For gas installations, customers more often ask about the INiG certificate. Exactly what is required on a given project is determined by the design and the site inspector.

How to obtain the documents

We make certificates, declarations and approvals for the Besco and Pegler Yorkshire lines available to wholesalers in the document library after verification. If a customer asks about a specific item, include its number in your enquiry and we will find the right document.
